V3C/V3M/K1M Monster firmwares working: A more Automated Process
Updated: 01/01/07 2:52 pm
I know there is already the Wiki on flashing your phone with the Alltel
firmware -> http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/Motorola_V3c_Tutorial:_Flashing_to_Alltel_User_Interface
But when I flashed my Verizon Impulse Moto V3Cpp to the Alltel firmware, I did it slightly
differently...
PLEASE SEE THE WIKI for the Pros/Cons of using the Alltel firmware FIRST!!
Currently, Verizon V3C, V3M, and KRZR K1m
MONSTER firmwares have been leaked, so if you can NOT get this working, you can
flash back to the Verizon Monsters and be just like the "fresh out of the box"
Verizon state. See -> Flash from Alltel Firmware
back to Verizon's Firmware.
Please Note: This process is NOT 100% fool
proof, there are varying degrees of success. For additional background,
you're welcome to read -> Getting Non-Verizon Monsters working: The only thing consistent is inconsistency
You can see the original "notepad style" log
I kept of what I did when I first got the phone here -> V3C-Process2.htm (contains MANY EXTRA STEPS for
file system comparisons, etc. for later to further my knowledge)
Below represents the steps I took along
the way of converting a Verizon Moto V3C Impluse/PrePay phone into a Alltel flashed V3C on my Post Paid
Verizon account.
This will also work on a "Post Paid" or
"retail" V3C or V3M, however because of using V3C firmware, on the V3M you will
loose support for the Transflash slot, VCast Music, Verizon Music player, MTP
Mode Sync with Windows Media Player... In other words, flash your V3M with V3C
firmware, and you've turned your V3M hardware into a V3C phone...
I didn't exactly follow ALL steps of the Wiki when it came to getting the Alltel flash
working.... however I did use the Wiki as a guide, and have a few quotes
of the steps from the wiki that I did use at the bottom of this page.
I want to thank all
those who worked on and contributed to the Wiki, especially Goldmembr,
without whom, none of this would be possible!!
WARNING:
This process works using the Motorola V3c - GATW_X_04.06.00R
Alltel UPGRADE firmware over top of the Verizon V3C firmware!!
While in theory, it should work using the recently leaked Motorola V3c -
GATW_X_04.06.00R Alltel Monster File, many
who have tried have experienced problems with Data Services!! For some reason,
I don't have a problem when using the Monster.. and as of yet, I have NOT been able to
identify why...
SO until more investigation is done... The
preferred way is to have Verizon's 'STOCK' firmware on your phone when
starting, then when it comes to the step in the procedure to flash, flash
with the non-monster Alltel firmware!!!
NOTE: If working with the Alltel V3C Monster
you might want to try the KRZR Process instead.
Required...
1. USB Cable (see the FAQ)
2. Install the Motorola USB Modem drivers.
3. Install and configure Motorola PST v7.25 and its drivers, along with testing its
connection (Formerly known as the Prep-work section of the Seem Edit page).
(Sorry, No WAREZ links here).
4. Install P2KSeem for V710. (To install P2KSeem for V710.. Just unzip all the files
in the archive you downloaded to a folder. It does not need to be "installed." There is no
"setup" program.)
5. Alltel Firmware flash file.. (obtain from http://www.humpa.com/vzw or http://ryfiles.com/flash or Phone Encyclopedia link at phonenews.com)
6. QPST v2.7 Build 215 or higher (NOTE: while
Build 91 works for many, some have had issues using it that were resolved by
switching to build 215)
7. Install and configure QPST along with its
requirements
8. Install/Configure
P2KCommander along with its requirements
9. the seems, icons, and files indicated in the sections of the WIKI which
I quote below...
10. WinRAR by Rarlab needed to unpack .RAR
files.
The Process...
Note: If using the Verizon Impulse V3Cpp like I
did, you might need to Load SEEM 0055 into P2KSeem to retrieve SPC code for your phone and set
back to 000000.
NOTE: If using a Verizon Impulse V3Cpp from Walmart like I did, you must first
flash to the LEAKED .04p Verizon firmware (available at http://www.humpa.com/vzw or http://ryfiles.com/flash prior to
following this!! for how to flash Please see the -> HOW TO FLASH, just
use the Leaked 04 firmware instead of the alltel at this point.
NOTE: This process is slightly different than the Alltel V3C Wiki. Please use the WIKI process, or this process, DO
NOT TRY AND COMBINE BOTH!!!!
Get Started...
While your phone still has the Verizon firmware on
it, it must be activated, working on Verizon's network, and you must have done a
*228 opt 1 to program it, and/or a *228 opt 2 to have the latest Verizon PRL on
your phone.
NOTE: The V3C does not have to be the currently
active phone on your account while "converting" to the Alltel firmware... BUT as
stated, it must have been active on your account and programmed via *228 opt
1... so that the Verizon programming for Data services, PRL, NAM, ERI, etc.. are
in place... In fact, I used VZW's My
Account -> Activate phone, to switch to my V3C.. did *228 opt 1, then used My
Accont -> Activate, to switch back to my E815 while I then flashed and worked
with the V3C... of course when you're ready to test it and make sure it works,
you need to switch back to the Razr, and keep it active while you work with it.
For how to use Verizon's "on line ESN Swapper" to switch which
phone is active on your account.. Evade has a greate illustrated write up, so
please see the ACTIVATE PHONE section of -> http://motorola.szczuka.org/Hollywood_VZW_Bell.html NOTE:
this will only work when switching between two EVDO phones...
1. Backup the phone...
OPTIONAL:
backup the file system... (Use BitPim to capture tree to zip file. Uncompress
ZIP on PC. go folder by folder comparing PC's copy to phone's file system view
in bitpim, make note of missing files/folders. Use P2KCommander and QPST to get
the rest.) This is not actually needed, but some like to do it, "just in
case"....
The following are MANDATORY:
once that is done... you can now backup the settings, config files, etc... which WILL BE NEEDED to restore later...
Use Qualcomm QPST to backup service programming..... Unplug your
phone from the PC, power it off, then back on, and re-connect it to the PC.
Use the QPST Configuration program, make sure your phone is
displayed/available... Select the port with your phone, then use the Start
Client pull down, select Service Programming. At the
phone selection screen, your phone should be listed and highlighted, click OK.
Click the READ FROM PHONE button. On the "Enter Service Programming Code"
screen, enter 000000 (or your phones SPC), and click OK. When the
read is complete, and you see values filled in, click the SAVE TO FILE button.
The file name box will automatically be filled in as your phone's ESN
number followed by _SP... (example: 1A3333Ad_SP) click the
Save button. Click on the Connection pull down in QPST Service
Programming, and click EXIT. Exit the QPST Configuration program.
Use Motorola PST to backup additional files....
Unplug your phone from the PC, power it off, then back on, and re-connect it to
the PC. Start PST Phone Programmer. Use the File pull down,
and click on NEW. Select BREW File, and click OK. Use the Phone pull
down menu and click on READ. When the PST Phone Programmer Progress window
indicates the Read Procedure has completed successfully, (it says "It's now safe
to disconnect the phone"), close that progress
window. In the PST Phone Programmer window, use the File pull down
menu, and click SAVE AS... name the file, and click save...
Repeat the process using PST to backup each of the following... CDMA Enhanced Roaming Indicator (ERI) File, CDMA NAM File, CDMA Preferred Roaming File, Feature File, Mobile IP File (NOTE: you might get an error stating this may or
may not be supported, click YES to continue, it will report Partially completed), MMS Data File, RTT Data File and RTT Browser File (NOTE: have Ver 6.x tab selected before you click READ FROM PHONE).
NOTE: You do not need to exit PST, or unplug/poweroff/poweron/replug
between READ operations.
When you have finished, in the PST Phone Programmer window,
use the PHONE pull down menu, and click RESTART. If RESTART is
grayed out. Click File -> New -> Phone Book -> OK. then do Phone ->
Restart. When PST's progress box says restart is complete, "It's safe to
disconnect the phone" Exit PST.

2. FLASH THE PHONE's FIRMWARE...
If you were unsuccessful backing up ANY of
the files in section 1, please STOP and DO NOT FLASH YOUR PHONE!!!
Please see the -> HOW TO FLASH <- page
for the latest updates/notes and FULL information.

3. Restore the backups you created earlier...
Use Qualcom QPST to Restore service programming.....
Unplug your phone from the PC, power it off, then back on, and re-connect it to
the PC. Use the QPST Configuration program, make sure your phone is
displayed/available... Select the port with your phone, then use the Start
Client pull down, select Service Programming. At the
phone selection screen, your phone should be listed and highlighted, click OK.
Click the LOAD FROM FILE button. Navigate, find and select your ESN#_SP.QCN
file you created earlier. Click OPEN. Click the WRITE TO PHONE
button. On the "Enter Service Programming Code" screen, enter
000000 (or your phones SPC), and click OK. When the write is
complete, click on the Connection pull down in QPST Service Programming, and
click EXIT. Exit the QPST Configuration program.
Unplug your phone from the PC, power it off, then back on, and
re-connect it to the PC.
Use Motorola PST to Restore additional files.... Start PST Phone Programmer. Use the File pull down, and click on
OPEN. Select BREW File, and click OK. Use the Phone pull down menu
and click on WRITE. When the PST Phone Programmer Progress window indicates
the WRITE Procedure has completed successfully, close that progress window.
Repeat the process using PST to restore each of the following
that you backed up earlier... CDMA ERI File, CDMA NAM File, CDMA Preferred Roaming File, Feature File, Mobile IP File (NOTE: you might get an error stating
this may or may not be supported, click YES to continue, it will report
Partially completed), MMS Data File, RTT Data File and RTT Browser File (NOTE: have Ver 6.x tab selected before you click PHONE ->
WRITE).
NOTE: You do not need to exit PST, restart the phone, or unplug/poweroff/poweron/replug
between WRITE operations.
When you have finished, leave the PST Phone Programmer window
as the phone is in the proper mode to do seem edits...

4. Perform Edits to the 2742 Seem as
needed...
If you have never done a seem edit, please see my -> SEEM EDIT GUIDE
Start PST Phone Programmer. Wait for the phone to switch to the P2K
Mode and the drivers to be listed correctly in device manager, then Launch P2KSeem for V710. When it indicates
Connected in the lower left, for seem fill in 2742, for bytes (h) enter 0000, for Record enter 1, and click Load From Phone.
I made the following changes, then clicked SAVE TO PHONE.
When complete, use the RESTART PHONE button in P2KSeem, when it switches to
Disconnected, unplug the phone, exit P2KSeem and PST.

Perform the following steps from the WIKI....
5.
Overwrite files
THE FOLLOWING section IS Based on a section in THE WIKI....
http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/Motorola_V3c_Tutorial:_Flashing_to_Alltel_User_Interface
However it has been slightly modified....
NOTE:When you overwrite the MMA_UCP/MMA_DCP files, whatever you had entered
for your home keys (soft keys and arrows) will be reset. You can change them
afterward.
Use P2KCommander to overwrite the following files on your phone
with the ones contained in -> system.zip <- Contains
V3C SPECIFIC MMA_UCP/MMA_DCP, if you have a KRZR K1M DO NOT use these
two files!!
a/motorola/system/alltel_axcess_mm_a_41x41_c.gif
a/motorola/system/alltel_axcess_mm_s_33x33_c.gif
a/motorola/system/alltel_axcess_mm_s_15x15_c.gif
a/motorola/system/mma_ucp
a/motorola/system/mma_dcp
Use P2KCommander to overwrite a/brew/mod/brewappmgr/alltelappmgr.bar
with the one contained in -> alltelappmgr.zip
____________________________________
The following steps copied from the Wiki NOTE: If the PST Backup of
your RTT BROWSER FILE contained your web sessions, the following steps in
GREEN may not be necessary... The rest of
this section may also be pre-configured from using the QPST and PST
backup/restore process. So while doing the following, you may only need
to VERIFY these are set properly...
6. fix mms
Method 3
This is how I did it
as it is easiest, I think anyway
after enabling both seem edits you can access web sessions menu by
from home screen hit #073887* this spells #0setup* so you can remember
it
then password is 000000
create a new entry set it up as this:
Name: VZW_MMS
Homepage:http://homepage
UserID: 9995551212 (where 9995551212 is your 10 digit phone number)
Password:***(vzw)
Gateway IP1:000.000.000.000
Gateway1: mms.vtext.com
Service Type1:HTTP
Port 1:80
E2E Port 1:9201
LXL Port 1:0
Gateway IP 2:000.000.000.000
Gateway 2:
Service Type 2:
Port 2: 0
E2E Port 2: 0
LXL Port 2: 0
good now back out of menus
VZW should be selected as your default websession
then go to
inbox / Message Inbox / Options / inbox Setup / MMS Message Setup / Server Info
/ Options /Edit
Service Name VZW
Server Name http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
Web Session name VZW_MMS
ok now back out of menus
NOTE: Sometimes the websession setting under this menu does not stick to VZW_MMS
after rebooting the first time. Before you go to test MMS, be sure to check if
the setting stuck. If not, set it to VZW_MMS again and it should stick after
that. Attempting to send MMS messages with the websession set to the wrong
setting could result in MMS messages becoming stuck in your outbox.
Now go to Main Menu / Settings / Security / Data Connections/ passwor is 000000/
1xRTT Data. Verify that the following are set... If they are not,
then change them....
User Name : XXXXXXXXXX@vzw3g.com (XXX=your TN)
Note:
After you hit OK the phone might report… “Notify ALLTEL of change” just
disregard !
Password : vzw
hit done

to the use of the QPST and PST backups/restores....

More MMS Fixes part 3
From Goldmembr.... http://www.howardforums.com/showpost.php?p=6841197&postcount=299
Ok here is the final seem edit to have Send To PixPlace Fully working without
having to manualy type in the email address. You must do all the individual seem
edits i posted in this thread post #228
Note: You MUST open this seem and put in your "10 digit number" because right
now what it says is "9999999999@pix.vtext.com" so change "9999999999" to
"your10digitnumber" and leave the spaces between the numbers.
Seem 29a0 Bytes 40 Record 0001

9. Fixing VCAST
COPIED FROM THE WIKI
Fixing VCAST
Download and extract the zip file from vast_brew_preloads.zip
Connect to the phone using PST
Use P2kCommander and navigate to /a/brew/mod
Create two folders named '13478' and '12513'
Copy the files from the '13478' and '12513' folders from the zip file to these
folders respectively
Create the folder /a/brew_preloads (at the root)
Copy 13478.mif and 12513.mif from the zip into that
Restart the phone.
____________________________________
10. Fix Ring Tones....
After flashing from the Verizon firmware to the Alltel UPGRADE Firmware, I am left with Ring Tones listed in the phone's menu that do not
Play... so to fix this... Use P2KCommander or BitPim to delete the MyToneDB.DB file, and restart the
phone. You may also want to do the RingStyle fix -> http://mark.cdmaforums.com/RingStyleFix.htm
NOTE: if using the Motorola V3c - GATW_X_04.06.00R Alltel
Monster File available at http://www.humpa.com/vzw then you do not need to do the RingTones fix.
____________________________________
11. Adjust your phone's Ring Style
settings...
Because of doing the Ring Style Fix earlier, all of your ring
selections are now "silent" or NONE for every profile. Please go Menu -> Settings -> Ring Styles ->
Detail for each of your ring styles to assign sounds for your rings and alerts.
____________________________________
THIS SECTION STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION......
12. Adding Skins for the Moto UI on the V3C...
When using the UPGRADE flash, there will be only the Verizon
UI "skins" on the phone which are NOT the same as the Moto UI skins... so you'll
want to add skins which are compatible with the Moto UI, and remove the VERIZON
ones...
Use P2KCommander to create the following 3 folders...
(NOTE: Success using BitPim to add SKIN files/folders varies, so it is suggested
you use P2KCommander for this part!)
a/mobile/skins/Moto
a/mobile/skins/Scarlet
a/mobile/skins/Techno
install the 3 Default Moto UI skins... inside -> AlltelV3CSkins.zip you'll find the
3 default skins. Use P2KCommander to place the files contained in this ZIP
file into their appropriate folders on the phone. Then unplug the phone, power
the phone off/on.
Remove the Verizon UI skins... Use BitPim (NOT
P2KCOMMANDER) to
delete the following folders.... (NOTE: P2KCommander can not be used to remove
skins as it can not see empty folders... And empty folders will still show up in
the list of skins on the phone's menu.)
/mobile/skins/Blue
/mobile/skins/Business
/mobile/skins/Default
/mobile/skins/Tropical
Unplug the phone, power it off, then on.
You can now use Menu -> Personalize -> Skin to select a
new skin.
Note: the same process can be used to add other CDMA
compatible Skins for the Moto UI.
An additional skin I use is WM5.ZIP
its a variation on a Windows Media skin.
____________________________________
THIS SECTION STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION......
13. Adding MMS templates...
The Moto UI phones have MMS templates built in. When
using the Alltel UPGRADE firmware on top of the Verizon firmware, the menu
option is there, however these MMS
templates will not be installed. If you try and use them, you get an
error.
Using P2KCommander, create a the a/motorola/mms/mmstemplate
folder.
Place the files inside of -> mmstemplate.zip
into the newly created a/motorola/mms/mmstemplate folder.
____________________________________
My Final Notes....
Now that everything is working, Please create new QPST and PST
backup files (as outlined earlier)... It will make it easier to recover should
something mess up your Alltel firmware.
From now on, manually update your PRL using PST rather than
using *228 since *228 has corrupted data services for many using the Alltel
firmware.
If you perform a *228 and it messes up your data services...
While I know the Wiki says you must re-do everything to fix MMS, Vcast, etc...
You should need to only restore your QPST and PST backups (Restore
the backups you created earlier... section). Even then, not all of the PST backups are actually needed.
You should not need to reload all of those seems.
