LG Voyager coments/feed back 11/19/2007

When I received the Voyager, I was being overloaded at work, so I never had a time to sit down and write a full review. Instead, I just posted comments as time permitted... These are those comments...

playing... I don't like the internal 4way control... down isn't easy to "feel"... it feels like my finger wants to slide off...

I like the 4way on the enV better... I can feel it better..

and the phone just rebooted itself while in the browser...

FAUguy, I can definately understand what you mean about clicking on some of the links would be easier with a stylus...

I definately need a screen protector for this outside screen.. its covered with finger prints..

sorry.. in and out of meetings so can't post more until later...

First impressions..

Out of the box this phone certainly has the "wow" factor... but as I start to use the phone... that slowly wears off...

The ear peice has "buzz" or distortion at higher volume, my friends on the other end tell me I don't sound as clear as with my other phones.

The touch screen is "neat" but scolling through the phone book, it often takes my "drag" as a "click" and opens a contact.. When viewing the web... even CNN which Verizon has as a New link... the story/article links are small/difficult to use.

Camera takes good pictures outside... I haven't tried inside yet...

Mobile TV works well.

Reception ins't on par with enV... Walking through a building that is tough for calls, the enV held and didn't break up.. the Voyager DID break up and I thought I lost the call...

more to come later...

UGH what were they thinking?!?!?!

Such a BIG external screen... yet the Caller ID picture is so small

see -> CallID1.jpg

even the caller's name isn't big enough to be useful....

Sorry, with work right now... I don' t have much time to sit and write up a big, complete, formal review of this phone...

Here are more observations to add to what I've already posted...

Visited the WAP Hofo site on the Voyager.. interesting how this browser works. not sure i completly like it. links to click on are too small... its really easy to click on the wrong thing...

Trying to get into a login box or password box.. and have the "virtual keyboard" come up so you can type.. is a pain...

draging around isn't smooth...

OperaMini on the Pearl and my T-Mo Curve is better from a navigation stand point.. then again... that could be due to the more precice control of the blackberry's track ball...

To tap many of the links using the Voyager's browser, you have to use your finger nail, carry a stylus, or something... they are so small and EASY to click the wrong thing

As for page rendering... Both OperaMini (on the BB) and the Voyager's browser do a good job.. but hitting http://yahoo.com... the voyager seems slower.

Sorry, I'm not good at describing... I just know that I like the Blackberry browser and OperaMini better...

Then again.. I'm using the external screen on the Voyager.. not the internal.. Using the 4way on the interal keyboard will probably make it easier to navigate...

The GUIDE in the MobileTV application is different than the MobileTV app on the U620 was.. then again, they may have updated that as I haven't used it since May...

I do like the MobileTV interface on the Voyager better... its more like the program guide on my cable box... multi-line listing.. while the picture is "shrunk" in the upper right. Again, I'm making use of the EXTERNAL screen here...

It feels solid. hefty.. does it feel "expensive"? or worth the $299 with a new 2yr? um. I can't say.

Holding it in my hand talking on it, it feels comfortable. I didn't mind holding it for a 16 min call followed by a 11min call.. or later while on a 33min call...

I am noticing a few times I'm touching the external screen, it gave me feed back (both audible and vibration), yet it didn't take the "key" press.

And I'm noticing a few more "drags" while trying to scroll through menus, that it is taking as a click instead..

I've used Settings & Tools -> Touch Settings -> Calibration.. and calibrated it.. didn't seem to help much...

I've used 1 hour and 25 min of talk so far.. Total Data... 16949KB!! (ok, so at $2 per MB... that would be... $32, right??)

ANother bug??

I haven't seen this mentioned...

With the phone closed, queue up songs in the music player and set them to play... when the play back has stopped... the screen stays ON at 1/2 brightness...

I fell asleep listening to music with it... only to wake up to the battery being partially run down and the screen's back light still 1/2 lit. :(

If playback stops.. the display should power down.

The internal screen is not all that much "larger" than the enV.

Touch screen is "neat" but doesn't really improve on the operabilty of the phone.

The same folders are available for BT OBEX FTP as on the enV (MY_PIX, MY_SOUNDS, MY_FLIX) so there is no improvement there.

MobileTV is "nice" but not available in all markets.. At $15 for 8 channels? and the programming doesn't match Broadcast TV version of the channels... (Couldn't watch Monday Night Football on ESPN).. Is it really worth the cost? To me, No. When the VCC sent me the U620 back in late April, I subscribed to try it... I cancelled after one month due to programming and channels. That hasn't changed... Now If there were more channels or it matched broadcast TV, then it might be worth it...

the "full browser" is not really "FULL"... it supports HTML and Javascript.. No flash, no shockwave, no Java. Plus its slow loading and rendering some HTML pages.. (Try visiting http://www.howardforums.com with it.. you'll see what I mean.) In addition, because of this "Full HTML Browser" feature, you are FORCED to switch to the Nation Wide plan and pay $2 per MB (which adds up quick!!) or spend an extra $15 per month for "unlimited" (5gig cap per fine print) data.

I find the sound quality to be no better or louder than the enV.. in fact, while on a call, at full volume... the enV WINS as the Voyager's ear piece distorts, where as the enV is loud and clear. (I'm not the only one running into this distortion)

With the phone flipped closed, the sound quality of the voyager isn't all that great. It sounds muffled as the speakers are inside facing the qwerty keyboard... "high end" or "trebile" is lost due to this. When the phone is flipped open, the sound is more harsh... to much high end... (Then again, my ears are sensitive.. I can distinguish between 160kbps and 190kbps Mp3's while listening, while no one else I know can....)

The Voyager has dropped a couple calls in locations where my enV holds them. This truely dissappoints me. The enV is Very Very good, and I was hoping for the same performance when it comes to reception...

There are some upgrades for apps when using the external screen, like the music player... The internal screen version now also shows the currently playing track name, not just the album. The outside version of the player is different than the inside.. and is a little nicer.

The updates to the My Pictures and My Video apps are nice but you see less thumbnails on the screen now as you page through.

but none of that is enough for ME to say its worth paying $300 with new 2yr rather than $99 with new 2yr.

Little, if anything, is "crippled" on the enV... so features wise, other than the TV, HTML support in the browser, 8Gig MicroSD card support(logical progression anyway), Touch screen, and minor upgrades to apps (music player, My pix, My Videos) there is nothing "gotta have" about this phone...

and it FEELS bigger than the enV too.

I think of it as enV meets VX9400 plus touch screen outside.
