Mobile Phone Tools

Revised: 1/12/06

Please NOTE:  Mobile Phone Tools (aka MPT)  is NOT the same as Verizon's Mobile Office Kit (aka MOK), nor is it the same as the Music Essentials Kit (aka MEK).  For information on the difference, see MPT vs MOK

While available for download on some web sites, MPT is NOT FREEWARE.  Its copyright software.  To obtain a legal copy you must purchase it!

NOTE: There is a copy of MPT v3.40i version floating around on the internet, this is a HACKED/BOGUS VERSION!! It will not work!! AND IT WILL NOT UPDATE!!

What Version of MPT do I need to support my Phone?  see -> MPT Version Info

Note: the V710/E815 use the Motorola SKN6311 series or compatible P2K connector style USB cable.  The V3C/V3M/Krzr K1M/Maxx Ve/Slvr L7Cuses a "standard" 5-Pin USB-A to Mini-B usb 2.0 cable.  For more info on cables, view the -> FAQ.

To Purchase MPT without a datacable....  You can purchase it directly from BVRP's Web Site for $29.99, and immediately download.  Additionally you can use promotion code tech97 to get a 15% discount off.  Another code that I was told works is  BVRPUS.  I am told BOTH can be combined to save even more!

V3C/V3M/K1M/MaxxVe/L7C users: to purchase MPT WITH data cable...  Newegg.com sells a Kit of MPT v4.0 CD bundled with Usb-A to Mini-B cable for $9.99 plus shipping.

V710/E815 users:  To Purchase MPT WITH Data cable...   Packages of MPT Software CD bundled with  Motorola SKN6311B USB Data cable are available from Motorola for $59.99, There is also a version available from BVRP Software For $59.90 with cable.  Newegg.com sells a Kit of MPT v4.0 CD bundled with SKN6311 cable for $9.99 plus shipping.

Some users are finding older bundles of MPT v2 and USB data cable on ebay cheaper.  This is fine as you can do a live-update to upgrade to the current version over the internet (a download of anywhere up to 100 meg with multiple reboots will be required).   NOTE: some people who purchased from eBay received Generic cables and a CD with a Pirated copy of MPT and/or other software. This is especially true of those vendors who sell the data cable bundled with a CD of "ring tones and utilities" so when using eBay... "Buyer Beware."

(From their web site...)
"Out of the box Mobile Phone Tools has an impressive list of features...

  • Synchronize your phone's calendar and contacts with MS Outlook, Outlook Express, Lotus Notes, or its own built in Calendar and Phonebook client.
  • Create, copy, delete Ring Tones, Graphics, Screen Savers, Videos, Multimedia messages and more with its built in Multimedia Studio.
  • Use your phone as a modem for your computer.
  • and more*...

*not all features are available will all phones."

Because Verizon has disabled some features of their Motorola phones, you are Limited on what you can do with a STOCK Verizon phone and MPT.  So here is what you can expect with a "stock" or un-modified Verizon phone....

For a "Stock" Verizon V710...  All you can do is work with the contacts and calendar over a USB Cable. Connection to the phone via Bluetooth does not work with MPT, nor does the Multimedia Studio feature.  The MultiMedia Studio feature is not available.

For a "Stock" Verizon E815...  All you can do is work with the contacts and calendar over a USB Cable OR Bluetooth.  MultiMedia Studio feature is not available and does not work.

For a "Stock" Verizon V3C...   you can do is work with the contacts and calendar over a USB Cable OR Bluetooth.  When it comes to MultiMedia Studio, it depends on the FIRMWARE revision on your phone.  There are two different firmware versions. For either, the MultiMedia Studio feature is not available, however   Certain firmware versions Need Seem Edits to make full use of MPT,  other does NOT.  Please consult the V3C Firmware Page for more details!!

For a "Stock" Verizon V3M...  All you can do is work with the contacts and calendar over a USB Cable OR Bluetooth.  MultiMedia Studio feature is not available and does not work.

For a "Stock" Verizon KRZR K1M...  All you can do is work with the contacts and calendar over a USB Cable OR Bluetooth.  MultiMedia Studio feature is not available, and does not does not work.

For a "Stock" Verizon Maxx Ve... All you can do is work with the contacts and calendar over a USB Cable OR Bluetooth.  MultiMedia Studio feature is not available, but can be made to be useable.

As you can see, Verizon disables compatibility with MPT's MultiMedia Studio feature (part that does ring tones/pictures/videos) on the phones themselves..

Because of this, they also remove the "M" from the phone ID string... so when MPT auto-detects your phone, it will only give you the options of a "STOCK" phone, i.e. NO  MultiMedia Studio icon...

There are two things needed to fix this... (you must do both!!)
First... Re-enable the feature on the phone.. Seem Edit is the only way!! (Offset 6A, Bit0... on the E815, V3C, V3M, KRZR it would be Seem 2742, however on the V710/V325 it would be Seem 041A). NOTE: this is NOT needed for the Maxx Ve, V9M, Z6tv and Z6c.
Second... Get MPT to see your phone as the "M" model of your phone so that you get MPT's MultiMedia Studio icon/features... (There are up to 3 different ways to accomplish this task depending on your phone, you must "pick 1"... each are described on the install/setup guides below..)

So, while Seem Edits can re-enable the features on the V710/E815/V3C(.03/.04)/V3M/Krzr/V325, BRVP does NOT SUPPORT this, and will not support "hacked" or Seem Edited phones. So, if you do a seem edit, you void your phone's warranty, Verizon's support, and BVRP will NOT help you if you have problems with MPT.

The required Seem Edits....See the Popular V710/E815/V3C Seem Edits Page...  You need to do ONE  Offset 6A/Bit0,  and optionally the Phone ID String edit.

V3C User's: BVRP/Avanquest, the makers of Mobile Phone Tools (MPT) have mentioned a bug in the Firmware of the Verizon V3C Razr when it comes to the calendar... As such, they have disabled calendar support for the V3C in their software.  When it comes to MPT and the Calendar functions with the V3C, Use at your own risk!!  NOTE: This bug has apparently been fixed with the Verizon 01.15.04 Firmware.

Verizon Maxx Ve, V9M, Z6tv, Z6C users:  Due to the OBEX File Transfer support (see PHONE BLUETOOTH page), certain capabilities are available on the phone without seem edit, however, you have manual work to do.  See the guide links below...

NOTE: Alltel does NOT disable the multimedia features on their Moto phones.  As such, Alltel firmware users doNOT need to do the seem edit AND MPT will detect the phone as the "M" model, and give the MultiMedia Studio icon.

Once your phone is equipped with the latest Verizon firmware and any Seem Edits if necessary for your phone are made, you can use ALL the features of MPT via either USB Data Cable OR Bluetooth!

BVRP makes/sells MPT and they have a Support Forum with FAQ's  In addition, they have a manual for Motorola Mobile Phone Tools (PDF, 3.0Meg)  available from the BVRP Documentation Page

Note: Verizon V710/E815/V3C(.03/.04)/V3M/Krzr K1M  users Even if displayed, the Multimedia Studio feature will not work unless you do the Seem Edit Bluetooth Or USB file transfer in MPT. Offset 006A, Bit 0. to seem 041A on the V710, 2742 on the E815/V3C(.03)/V3M/KRZR as outlined on the Popular Seem Edit Page
