Samsung U740: Setting up Free WAP

Below are the steps I took to setup "Free WAP" on my Samsung U740....

Verizon wireless charges $5 per month to use their WAP service, which makes use of their proxy server, but still charges airtime minutes. The below write up allows you to use your own proxy server, or other proxy server, and not pay Verizon's $5 per mont charges.

Note: Air time charges still apply for use.

Based on information in -> How-To Step by Step guide: 100% working free wap for u740 with free dedicated server

Required...
1. Proxy server, either free, or your own HoTTProxy server.
2. The following settings to access your proxy server

Example...
Proxy Address: 9.99.99.99
Proxy Host Name: proxy.dyndns.org
Proxy Port: 9201
User Name: 8005551212
Password: vzw

Now for the process...

1. On the phone, go Menu -> Settings & Tools.

2. Press #

3. When prompted for User Lock, enter 000000

4. Press 0

5. When prompted for User Lock, enter 0218243440

18. Select 6. Primary DNS, and set it to the Proxy Address (example: 9.99.99.99) or Host Name (example: proxy.dyndns.org ) for your proxy.

19.Back out to the Browser Settings Screen.

20. Set those same settings the Secondary DNS of the Browser Settings Screen.

21. Under PRIMARY IP set the following...

23. under the Common Settings menu, set the HOME URL to be your wap home page.

24. Press END on the phone to exit out.

25. Using the phone's menus, assign a short cut to News & Info... On the phone go Menu -> Settings & Tools -> Set Shortcut Key. Change one of them to News & Info.

You're now set to use FREE WAP. Using the NEWS & INFO assigned ShortCut key will bring up your WAP home page.

Using the link from your phone's Get-it-Now menu for News & Info will bring up the browser, but try and take you to the Verizon News & Info url which is not accessable when using a Non-Verizon Proxy. If you launch using G-I-N, you will get an error. Press the menu soft key, and select VZW Home. You'll be taken to your home page.

NOTE: While using your own proxy server, the Verizon's links will not work. This means search, my account, add to favorites, and some other menu's inside the web browser will not work.

Additional settings under USERPREFS Editor.....

NOTE: The following values while using the USERPREFS Editor can be changed.... Doing so will allow you to be able to use the links on your phone's Get-It-Now menu, rather than having to create Short Cuts (step 23 above)

If you go into the USERPREFS editor, you can change what the menu item links go to so they work.

The following variables are a little bit after all of the WAP/proxy settings in the USERPREFS editor:

OMB_EMAIL_URL:A - changes the URL that loads when you use the Email link in Messaging
OMB_CHAT_URL:A - changes the URL that loads when you use the Chat link in Messaging
OMB_NEWS_URL:A - changes the URL that loads when you use the News and Info link in Get It Now
OMB_MY_ACC_URL:A - changes the URL that loads when you use the My Account link in Settings and Tools
