LG Phones: Using Humpa's MMS/Pix Server
Using Humpa's MMS server rather than Verizon's PixPlace on your LG Chocolate or LG enV
Thanks Humpa for the instructions!!
NOTE: Instead of using LG Download... Since the newer versions of BitPim fully support access to the file syste, you can also use BitPim to copy the /nvm/nvm/nvm_lg_param to the PC, hex edit it to change the values for MMSC SERVER URL and MMSC Post URL as specified in the steps below, then overwrite the file on the phone with the edited copy.
This is important because with some of the newer DLL files installed, LGDownload will automatically select the DLL for your phone, and you can NOT manually select a different DLL, and therefore may NOT have access to the necessary fields in the NV EDIT screen.
If Using Humpa's server... http://www.thephonecam.com rather than running your own...
1. Visit www.thephonecam.com and sign up. You'll then have a USERID and PASSWORD.
2. Obtain LGDownload v1.3.6.3 (v1.6 didn't have the option). If you have the Chocolate (VX8500) use the VX8300 DLL
pack (as the VX8500 DLL pack doesn't have the option.). If you have the enV (VX9900) use the VX9800 DLL pack (as the VX9900 DLL pack doesn't have the option). DLL Packs available from http://www.humpa.com/vzw NOTE: the Voyager VX10K DLL DOES have the option.
3.Reboot as required.
4. Start LGDownload.
5. From the Operation Pull Down menu, click Check For Select DLL File.
6. From the Operation Pull Down menu, click Select DLL File.
7. Click on Tri Mode.
8. Double click the DLL for your phone, then click OK.
9. From the Operation Pull Down menu, click NV EDIT.
10. Click the NV EDIT START button.
11. When prompted for Service Program Code, enter 000000 and click OK.
12. The phone will switch to NV MODE. Note: when using the VX9800 DLL with the VX9900, you might get an error "can't read pim/call_hist_nv.dat file from phone!!" just click OK.
13. Go to the MMS tab...
14. On the Chocolate, change the MMSC SERVER URL from http://mms.vtext.com to http://www.thephonecam.com ... and MMSC Post URL from /servlets/mms to /username/password . On the enV with the VX9800 DLL, they are called MMS UPLOAD ADDRESS, and MMSC SERVER POST CGI
15. click WRITE...
You're set.
Now, when using the menu option on your LG phone, you can select a Picture or
Video and click on Options > Send. Then in the To field select Add > 4. To Pix
Place.
Then fill in the Subject or Text field and that will be used as your caption.
Don't bother putting in any email addresses or phone numbers in the To field
because thephonecam.com ignores that field.
If you want to send your pics to email addresses or phone numbers/email
addresses, you can do that from thephonecam.com when viewing your pic.
The newest pics are shown right on www.thephonecam.com homepage, or you can use your personal page: www.thephonecam.com/Username
You also can setup your own Private Gallery that will require your friends to
use a special password of your choosing to view. You can move any of your pics
to your Private Gallery. Your Private Gallery will be at www.thephonecam.com/private_gallery/Username
For example, my private gallery is at www.thephonecam.com/private_gallery/Humpa - use humpa_test for the password
IF using your own MMS server
If you have your own website that supports php and doesn't have banner ads
inserted by your webhosting company.
The benefits of using your own humpa_mms server is that you can still send pic
messages to phone numbers and email addresses - or you can choose to only send
them to your humpa_mms gallery. You can also send them to an email
address/number AND your humpa_mms gallery
Here is my demo page: www.humpa.com/humpa_mms
You can try it out by sending here: http://www.humpa.com/humpa_mms/send.php
1. Visit http://www.humpa.com/downloads/index.php?humpa_id=7#h7 and download your own
copy of the humpa_mms server to install on your own site.
14. Change the MMSC SERVER URL from http://mms.vtext.com to http://www.humpa.com ... and MMSC Post URL from /servlets/mms to /humpa_mms/send.php (or the
path to your send.php - you can also rename the send.php so only you can post to
it)... On the enV with the VX9800 DLL, they are called MMS UPLOAD ADDRESS, and MMSC SERVER POST CGI
15. click WRITE...
You're set.
Now, when using the menu option on your LG phone, you can select a Picture or
Video and click on Options > then you can either use Send or To Pix Place
My humpa_mms also supports audio files - I'm not sure if we can send audio files
from the chocolate, but if you can, just follow the same steps as sending a Pic
or Video.
If you use "Send", my MMS server will forward to any email address or
phonenumber that you put in the To fields.
There are options in the config.php that you can configure.
For example, when forwarding/sending pic messages to phonenumbers, you can
enable/disable that option in the config.php and choose which provider to use.
Verizon is used by default - so if you want to send to another provider, you can
simply save their email address in your phone (5555551212@messaging.sprintpcs.com
for example) - or you can change the config.php to use @messaging.sprintpcs.com
instead of @vzwpics.com
You can also turn off commenting, or make commenting password protected. I've
also included a complete set of some cool smilies. And you have some basic
features like deleting.
All your config options and setup is explained here:
